The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn 600th Anniversary Logo

It was an absolute honour (no pun intended) to be selected to design the 600th anniversary logo for the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn — a society of barristers in central London. The location of Lincoln’s Inn is a sight to behold, with a wide variety of impressive architecture built over many centuries. My commissioners wanted the logo to not only give a nod to the incredible history of Lincoln’s Inn, but also to look forwards to the future as well.

For the logo design I have taken the motif of the millrind which is featured many times on the official Lincoln’s Inn coat of arms and  found throughout the architecture on the site. I’ve used this simple shape to interlock the 0’s of 600, giving a sense of balance and helping underline the continuity of the society through the centuries. The ascender of the number 6 arcs over the dates and gives that sense of forward momentum required of an identity that looks forward as well as backwards.
